The goal of this document was not to encompass neutron applications in all their width and breadth – this has been done at earlier occasions – but rather to assess key scientific problems where the impact of ESS will be most significant. These scientific flagships are the essential content of this report. They have been identified and addressed by working groups covering the fields of solid state and particle physics, of materials and soft condensed matter science, of biology and earth science, of chemistry and engineering and the science of liquids and amorphous materials.
